The McFarlane coonection is through Cole family to the Brays.

Ellen McFarlane, who married Frederick William Cole, was the daughter of our first Australian McFarlane, Charles McFarlane who was born in Glasgow, Scotland in about 1809. He arrived in Sydney in about 1831 and married Elizabeth Welsh, the daughter of Robert Walsh and Ellen Ryan from Co. Cork Ireland, on 28 Aug 1841 at St Andrews Presbyterian Church Sydney. In 1842 he was working as a shepherd at Morpeth, NSW and by about 1849 with his growing family had moved to Bungendore.

He was still a sheep overseer until his death on 16 Jul 1880 at Groces Meadow near Bungendore. He was buried on 20 Jul 1880 at Carwoola and there is a headstone St Thomas' Church Cemetery.

Little is known of the earlier McFarlane and Welsh families.
